Expectations are rising as the 2025/26 Peruvian table grape export season prepares to kick off in October. According to Fresh Fruit Peru, early forecasts predict a 9% increase in FOB value compared to last year.
Even under less favorable conditions such as weather challenges or oversupply in international markets the industry could still see growth of around 5%. In the best-case scenario, where production and trade factors align smoothly, growth could reach 15%, pushing exports beyond US $2.3 billion and further cementing Peru’s position as the global leader in table grape exports.
Peru has overtaken traditional powerhouses like the US and Italy to become the world’s top table grape exporter. This success is attributed to a strategic shift toward patented and highly productive varieties, an emphasis on white seedless grapes, advanced water management techniques in arid zones such as Piura, and a smart commercial strategy that maximizes opportunities in profitable markets like the United States.
Currently, Peru ships grapes to more than 40 international markets, with campaigns already surpassing US $2 billion in value. Globally, fresh table grape trade exceeds US $12 billion annually, with the US, European Union, and China serving as the top consumer hubs. However, increased competition particularly from Chile and China alongside the risks of climate change, continues to push Peruvian exporters to innovate and strengthen every stage of the supply chain, from vineyard management to port logistics.
Fresh Fruit Peru highlights varietal change as the key to staying ahead. Over the past decade, the share of hectares planted with patented varieties has soared from 16% to nearly 75%, with more than 60 varieties tailored to shifting global consumer preferences particularly the demand for white seedless grapes.
At ESU we are proud to be part of this exciting journey. As importers of premium Peruvian grapes, we look forward to the upcoming season and to sharing these exceptional grapes with our partners and customers worldwide.
